Getreidegasse & Mozarts Geburtshaus
Getreidegasse is one of the best-known streets in Salzburg’s Old Town and is a special place to take a stroll through the historic centre. Behind the ornate façades, wrought-iron guild symbols and traditional passage houses, Salzburg reveals its lively yet historic side. Amidst small shops, cafés, restaurants and hidden courtyards, Getreidegasse combines shopping, architecture and culture in a particularly charming way.
One of the highlights is at Getreidegasse 9: the birthplace of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. The famous composer was born in this historic house in 1756. Today, a museum commemorates his childhood, his family and his early musical years in Salzburg.
This makes Getreidegasse not only one of the city’s most beautiful shopping streets, but also a place where Salzburg’s musical history comes to life.
Salzburg Cathedral
Salzburg Cathedral is one of the most important landmarks of the Old Town, and its impressive architecture defines the historic center of Salzburg. Even from the outside, the cathedral is a striking sight, but inside it also impresses with its size, its solemn atmosphere, and its ornate design.
Directly in front of the cathedral lies Domplatz, featuring the Marian Column. This square is one of the city’s most famous locations and serves as a special stage every year: it is here that the famous “Jedermann” is performed as part of the Salzburg Festival.
For a tour of Salzburg Cathedral:
- A conservation fee of €5.00 is charged for adults.
- Children and teenagers up to age 18 can visit the cathedral free of charge.

The Hellbrunn Water Games are particularly famous. Hidden fountains, ornate grottoes, and the historic Mechanical Theater provide exciting moments and unexpected experiences during a tour.
